The Ten Minute Advocate for Affordable Housing
Can you Commit Just 10 Minutes to Make a Difference? As people of faith, we are called upon to advocate for the rights of others and speak up for the poor and defenseless. Our faith communities have demonstrated a desire for housing justice by being active participants in the annual Hypothermia Program. And while hypothermia sheltering is necessary to save lives, we recognize that the long term solution requires increasing the supply of affordable housing, especially access to housing for the lowest income groups. Advocacy is one of the most important things we can do to actually increase the supply of affordable housing. Ending homelessness requires adequate resources and supportive public policy. We want our leaders to be responsive to the needs and desires of their constituents and to do so, they need to hear from us. You don't have to be a policy wonk to advocate; you don't have to have an in-depth knowledge of housing policy or be a financial wizard. Your just have to care - and let your elected officials know that this is important to you and to your community. Will you commit to becoming a Ten Minute Advocate for Affordable Housing? We'll ask you to send an email to your government representative NO MORE THAN THREE times this year. At about 3 minutes per email, your total time commitment is just 10 minutes. We will let you know when your message would be most effective, what issues are being considered and who to send your email to. So, when you receive a " Ten Minute Advocate Alert", please don't hit delete! Send that email. Consider it an act of love and justice.
