Our Mission is to build broad faith-based grassroots support for public policies that end homelessness and increase the supply of affordable housing. Our goal is to increase the supply of affordable housing within our community, with a special focus on providing permanent housing opportunities for those at the lowest levels of income, who are either homeless or dangerously close to becoming homeless.

Our Strategy is to seek alliances with like-minded individuals and organizations to increase public awareness and understanding of the benefits that affordable communities provide for all of us; to support our local government officials' efforts to preserve the supply of affordable housing and encourage them to increase affordable housing production; and to help those who provide affordable housing overcome community resistance to their efforts.

Our Invitation is to all communities of faith, individuals, organizations, businesses, and agencies in the Fairfax-Falls Church community to declare homelessness an act of social injustice; thereby committing themselves in actions of advocacy to not only end homelessness, but to support the need for decent, affordable housing for all members of our community.

The Ten Minute Advocate for Affordable Housing
Can you Commit Just 10 Minutes to Make a Difference?

As people of faith, we are called upon to advocate for the rights of others and speak up for the poor and defenseless. Our faith communities have demonstrated a desire for housing justice by being active participants in the annual Hypothermia Program. And while hypothermia sheltering is necessary to save lives, we recognize that the long term solution requires increasing the supply of affordable housing, especially access to housing for the lowest income groups.

Advocacy is one of the most important things we can do to actually increase the supply of affordable housing. Ending homelessness requires adequate resources and supportive public policy. We want our leaders to be responsive to the needs and desires of their constituents and to do so, they need to hear from us.

You don't have to be a policy wonk to advocate; you don't have to have an in-depth knowledge of housing policy or be a financial wizard. Your just have to care - and let your elected officials know that this is important to you and to your community.

Will you commit to becoming a Ten Minute Advocate for Affordable Housing? We'll ask you to send an email to your government representative NO MORE THAN THREE times this year. At about 3 minutes per email, your total time commitment is just 10 minutes. We will let you know when your message would be most effective, what issues are being considered and who to send your email to. So, when you receive a " Ten Minute Advocate Alert", please don't hit delete! Send that email. Consider it an act of love and justice.
